How to use the split bill calculator

How the split is calculated
This calculator uses simple arithmetic and divides everything equally:
- Tip = bill × tip % ÷ 100
- Total = bill + tip
- Each share = total ÷ number of people
If you choose to round up, each share is raised to the next whole number, so the group may pay slightly more than the exact total. The result box shows that difference.
Worked example
A bill of 120 with an 18% tip, split between 4 people: the tip is 21.60, the total is 141.60, and each person pays 35.40.
Tips for splitting a bill fairly
Agree on the split before ordering if some people plan to spend much more than others. Decide whether to tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount. The calculator tips on whatever total you enter.

How do I split a bill evenly with a tip?
Add the tip to the bill, then divide the total by the number of people. This calculator does both steps for you.
Should I tip before or after tax?
Customs vary. The tip percentage is applied to the amount you enter, so enter the pre-tax subtotal to tip on that, or the full total including tax to tip on that.
Can I split a bill unevenly?
Not with this tool, which divides the total equally. For unequal splits, work out each person's items separately, then add their share of the tip and tax.
